ConvertKit is a top contender among email service providers (ESPs) in the small business marketing world. It’s used by thousands of marketers around the world and for good reason.
ConvertKit’s not only got the tools to help you convert leads into sales, but it has the capability to turn casual visitors into subscribers.
I recently switched to using ConvertKit from Constant Contact (which I’ll also be reviewing – check back for the link).
But I have to say…so far, so good.
I like the clean look of everything and how easy it is to navigate to different sections of the site.
Benefits of Using ConvertKit
Switching to ConvertKit will afford you the following benefits:
- A cleaner look for your opt-in forms
- Ability to send personalized content
- Email templates that make it easy to look professional
- Can help automate your sales funnel (so you can make more money without extra effort)
Pros and Cons
As with any product, there are going to be pros and cons. Here are mine for ConvertKit.
Pros
- One of the pros I love about ConvertKit is that they’re free if you have fewer than 1,000 contacts
- Then there’s the landing page and form builder (which not all ESPs have by the way)
- The ability to send email broadcasts
- Allows you to sell digital products and subscriptions
- Offers email support (even for the free package)
- Great option for creators (hence the name of the packages, as you’ll see below)
Cons
- One of my biggest issues with ConvertKit is that the free version doesn’t come with email sequences, which can be a big issue if that’s a big part of your business.
- Only the Creator Pro package comes with advanced reporting.
- When creating landing pages, sometimes it’s a little tricky to move things around (I had a little trouble moving a text box down on the page – there was no button for it).
Price
Compared to its competitors, ConvertKit is well worth the price.
Why?
Because it’s free (up to a certain amount of contacts, that is). But you really can’t beat free when it comes to anything.
But, like I said in the cons section, your free version isn’t going to come with all of the bells and whistles.
So if you really need email sequencing for your sales funnel, you might want to spring for the Creator package.
Here’s what pricing looks like for monthly paying customers.

And here’s what it looks like if you’re gonna be paying for the year:

At 3,000 subscribers, the Creator package price goes up to $41/month.
At 3,000 subscribers, the Creator Pro package price goes up to $66/month.
Summary: Is ConvertKit worth it?
In a word? Yes, especially for creators.
ConvertKit is a great email marketing tool for small businesses trying to grow their audience and email lists because you can start out with their free plan as long as you have under 1,000 subscribers.
Aside from the fact that it’s free for under 1,000 contacts (which makes it great for startups, small businesses, and solopreneurs), ConvertKit also has pretty opt-in forms that you can customize to suit your brand.
So whether you own an online clothing boutique or you sell pet supplies, you’ll be able to create a look that works for your site.
I love the look of my ConvertKit opt-in forms on my website, which you’ve probably seen casually nestled into of my blog posts. I also like that you can add your own photos (which can be stock photos or your own photos).
