There’s no point in spending weeks crafting amazing content that help people learn something new or transform their lives completely if no one ever gets to read it.
And no one will.
Unless you know how to drive traffic to your blog.
And I’m going to teach you exactly how to do that in more ways than one.

1. Use Social Media
Social media is more powerful now than it’s ever been in the past. With tools like analytics, paid search, and social advertising, you’re bound to find people interested in your content. You’ve just got to know how to play the social media game.
Learn how to use analytics to your advantage and you’ll be able to reach your target audience on social media.
Some of the top platforms for driving traffic to your website are:
Adding social sharing buttons to your post makes it easy for people to share your content with others, which gives you much more exposure.
Pinterest is one of the best social media sites to drive traffic to your blog because your content is visible for longer on Pinterest than any other social media site. Not to mention, the site has 335 million monthly visitors, which isn’t as much as other sites like Facebook, but your content lives longer on Pinterest than it does on Facebook. That’s a major plus.
About 71 percent of Pinterest users are women and no they don’t just go on there to pin wedding dresses and travel content. Pinterest is also used for entertainment and shopping. Pinterest users spend about 50 percent more on the site compared to other social media sites.
When using Pinterest as a traffic-generating machine, consider getting a business account because you can use Pinterest Analytics and Rich Pins to help draw in more traffic to your page and your blog. Rich Pins can help increase the CTR of your pins, so it’s worth considering.
Other strategies to incorporate into your Pinterest marketing strategy include joining group boards, optimizing your Pins using Pinterest Search suggestions, and using high-quality images for your Pins.
Video is one of the best marketing methods and it’s growing day by day, which is why YouTube is a great way to draw people back to your blog. As the third most visited site in the world, YouTube gets more than 2 billion monthly visitors and more than 300 hours of video is uploaded to the site every day.
To make the most of YouTube as a traffic-driving machine, create and upload short videos that address your audience’s problems, aspirations, questions, and fears. Tutorial/how-to videos and animated videos are popular options for conveying information in an easy-to-digest format. You should also consider optimizing your videos by using search autocomplete suggestions to see what topics people are already searching for.
Once you know your target keywords, add them to the title of your video and make sure to include them in your video description. You can use tools like Canva to create great thumbnails for your videos so that YouTube doesn’t assign a random clip from your video. Also, think about embedding your videos into your blog content for maximum exposure.
As the third most visited site in the world, Facebook has 2.41 billion monthly active users and 1.4 billion daily active users. There are about 8 billion video views and about 300 million images uploaded every day, making it one of the best social media platforms to use for driving traffic back to your blog. No matter what your target audience looks like or what your niche is, you’re likely to find them on Facebook. Literally everyone and their mother uses Facebook, whether it’s to share news, memes, or communicate with family members.
If you decide you want to use Facebook to help drive traffic back to your blog, there are a few ways you can go about it.
Creating a Facebook page for your brand is the first step you should take because it tells the world you are, what you do, and how you can help them solve their problems. It’s also where you’ll create engaging content that resonates with your target audience.
Using paid ads on Facebook (combined with content marketing) can also help you reach more people in your target audience. Since Facebook’s algorithm changed, it’s harder to reach people organically, which means you need another way to find and engage your target audience. Paid ads are one way to do that.
To get started with Facebook ads follow these steps as outlined by Facebook:

- Select your audience
- Decide where to run your ad
- Set your budget
- Pick a format
- Place your order
- Measure and manage your ad
You might also consider doing things like creating a Facebook group related to your niche where people can go and swap ideas, stories, advice, and more. You can even go as far as creating a group that reflects the problems of your audience.
Instagram has more than 1 billion monthly active users, but has a different audience than Facebook. Most Instagram users are women (52 percent) between the ages of 18 and 29 and women tend to spend more money than men. So if your target audience is young women, Instagram might be the perfect place to promote your brand, products, and/or services.
Building a following on Instagram means posting high-quality, relevant visual content on a regular basis. Don’t just promote your own products. You have to create value for others before you even think about selling. Posting a combination of different types of Instagram posts can help you relate to your audience in different ways and create an authentic, engaging experience.
Once you have their attention, use it to your advantage by sharing links to your landing pages, your blog, your eBooks, or whatever type of content you’re promoting at the moment.
Twitter is more popular with men than women, so if the audience you’re aiming for is men, then Twitter is probably one of your best bets when it comes to promoting your content. About 40 percent of Twitter users are between the ages of 18 and 34 and 36.7 percent are between the ages of 35 and 54.
The best way to get traffic using Twitter is to use relevant hashtags, join in on Twitter chat sessions (or run your own), tweet during times with the highest engagement, and promote your tweets.
LinkedIn can be a great source of traffic for B2B marketers. If your blog is geared toward helping other businesses, you could certainly benefit from using LinkedIn to get more traffic.
Start by posting engaging content that your audience would find useful and publishing articles on a regular basis. Any content you publish on your blog can also be posted on LinkedIn. Simply click the “Write an Article” button and start publishing your content on LinkedIn.
Articles show up in the newsfeed more often than regular posts — LinkedIn gives them preference.
Another tip to consider is switching up your headlines when you post articles on LinkedIn to see which headlines are most effective.
Reddit is an often overlooked source of traffic for lots of bloggers and affiliate marketers, but used in the right way, it can generate lots of traffic in a very short amount of time.
To use Reddit effectively, don’t think about marketing. Don’t spam people with links to your site.
Instead, take a more laid back approach and do your best to provide useful advice to people who need it. Only post links to your content when it’s relevant because users can sniff out a link spammer from a mile away.
Try to post new threads that are relevant to your niche about 10 to 15 times per day. These threads can be new posts or answers to other Reddit users’ questions.
Upvoting posts that you think are useful is another way to boost engagement with other users.
Medium, a publishing platform, is one of the newer social media sites — one that gets millions of visitors each month. Medium can not only earn you an additional income each month, but it can help you generate more traffic for your blog or website as well.
Medium is similar to other social media sites in that users can follow different authors and topics and interact with other users by liking and sharing content they find interesting or useful.
If you can create stimulating, engaging content that incorporates storytelling, you should have no problem getting views and traffic back to your blog.
Answering questions on Quora is a great way to generate income. It works similarly to Reddit.
When I started researching about creating a passive income using information products, I came across a book by Anik Singal called The Circle of Profit.
In it, he gave advice on how to drive traffic to your website once you have your website/blog set up and one of the things he mentioned was using Quora to drive traffic to your blog by simply answering questions people were asking on a specific topic related to your industry or niche.
Do this on a consistent basis and you should be able to generate consistent traffic from Quora. Just make sure you’re focusing on quality over quantity. Posting 10-15 times a day only works if you’re taking the time to answer questions thoughtfully and in a way that helps readers.
Don’t just post generic answers to questions. Go in-depth. And if you have a blog post that relates, by all means, post a link. Just don’t go overboard with them.
Like I said, people can sniff out a link spammer.
2. Consistently Create More Content
Updating your blog consistently with new content can help your blog traffic since Google gives higher priority to sites with fresh content.
Think about creating a blogging schedule to help you keep track of when you’re supposed to post new content. Updating your blog at least twice a week can help you get the traffic boost you need.
Make sure to share your content on social media sites you think are most appropriate for your audience.
For example, if your audience is women between the ages of 18 and 35, you might have better luck on Instagram and Pinterest.
But if your target audience is men between the ages of 18 and 35, you might do better on Twitter.
3. Create Great Headlines
The headline is arguably the most important part of your blog posts because they determine whether someone will click through and read your article.
If your posts have boring headlines that don’t tell the reader what’s in it for them, you might not get the traffic you want.
That’s why you have to pay attention to which headlines are getting the most attention, the most clicks.
And create more headlines like the click-worthy ones.
If you’re not sure how to create a clickable headline, try using a headline generation tool like CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer or Advanced Marketing Institute’s Emotional Headline Analyzer.
4. Writing Guest Posts
Guest posting is a great way to get your name out there if you’re trying to bring attention (and traffic) back to your blog.
Because any followers of the blog you guest post on are going to see your content, potentially like it, and want to know more about you and the kind of things you write about.
Start writing a list of potential blogs to guest post on that you think might be a good fit for you based on the type of content you create and your writing style.
For example, if your niche is social media marketing, you might pitch to sites like Social Media Examiner.
The top blogs get a lot of pitches for guest posts, so there’s a lot of competition. But don’t let that discourage you. Keep trying and you should be able to land a guest posting opportunity in no time.
5. Hosting a Webinar
Hosting a webinar can help drive traffic to your site by getting you quality leads that you can guide toward your website.
People will see your webinar link, provide their name and email address, and then click the “sign up” button.
Once they join the webinar, you’ll be able to provide them with all kinds of tools and resources sprinkled with your name, website address, and contact info so that if they need anything in the future, they’ll have a place to go to find more information.
A webinar can also be repurposed into a course, an eBook, or even a blog post — more opportunities to drive traffic back to your site.
Webinars can also help you develop authority and trust. Having one lets people know that you know your stuff and allows people to connect with you on a more personal level.
6. Giving Away Free Downloadable Templates
HubSpot has several free downloadable templates that help small business owners market themselves effectively. All you need to do to get one is provide your name email address and you can download your template.
If you do the same and offer free downloadable templates that your target audience would find useful, you can effectively drive traffic to your website.
It’s also a great way to grow your email list, which can be useful when you start promoting a new product or service.
You can create downloadable templates like content calendars, checklists, business plan templates, contract templates, budgeting templates, resume templates, case study templates, order form templates, and more.

7. Add Images and Infographics.
A blog without images is a pretty bland blog. People are visual creatures and they like pretty pictures. It might sound like a simplistic way to look at things, but that’s what it all boils down to.
Create stunning infographics that give people the information they need in a captivating visual format. Infographics make it easier for people to absorb information so consider creating some of your own and putting a few in some of your blog posts or hiring someone to create them for you. You also have the option of using other people’s infographics — just make sure you credit your sources.
Add plenty of images to your posts to break up large blocks of text and make it more readable, more aesthetically pleasing. You can take your own photos or use stock images if you’re just starting out.
Creating blog graphics for the top of each post is even better.
Use Canva or Snappa (one of my new favorites) to create blog graphics that contain the name of the post. You can also convert them to Pinterest Pins or other social media formats so you can use the same style when you start promoting your blog post.
Set a featured image for each post to let Google and other search engines know what image you want to show up when people find your post or page in search engine results.
8. Kill It With On-Page SEO
On-page SEO is probably one of the most important aspects of driving traffic to your blog because it tells readers (and search engines) what’s on your page. Creating a keyword strategy for every single page and post on your blog can help you drive more traffic naturally.
That means coming up with an SEO keyword or key phrase that you think readers would use to find your post and then incorporating those into the copy. You’ll also need a meta description that tells readers what they can expect to learn from your blog post.
Some keywords are pretty competitive so consider using different variations of the keywords you’re targeting so that you stand a chance against your larger competitors.
For on-page SEO, I recommend the Yoast plug-in if you’re using WordPress.

- Optimize your page for one keyword or phrase
- Tell Google what your page is about
- See a Google preview of your page
- Get a readability check
- Technical configuration for search engines

9. Building an Email List
Speaking of email lists, building one is one of the smartest things you can do to draw in more readers.
First, you need a hook — a.ka. a lead magnet — to get people to sign up for your email list. A lead magnet can be a downloadable template, an eBook, a cheat sheet, a guide to learning how to do something, a webinar, a case study, etc. The sky’s really the limit here.
Figure out what your target audience wants and create a lead magnet that draws them in and promises to help them do something they want to do, but don’t really know how.
For example, if your target audience is stay-at-home moms who are looking for an easy way to organize their days, you could create a downloadable template that helps them keep track of tasks they need to complete throughout the day.
Or if your audience is people who need help managing their money better, you could write an eBook offering help with budgeting, paying off debt, or creating an additional stream of income.
Once you’ve created your lead magnet, give it away in exchange for a name and email address.

10. Respond to Your Comments
According to Neil Patel, responding to your commenters actually helps put more words on the page, which can help with SEO. But more than that, you’re more likely to get repeat traffic. And repeat traffic equals loyal followers and subscribers that start to look for any new posts you create.
The most important thing is that you’re creating an emotional connection with your readers. You need to create a bond with your readers because people like communicating with people they feel comfortable with.
So find ways to connect with your audience in authentic ways. Don’t just pretend to care. Actually, you know, care. If they ask for help with something, go above and beyond to answer their question to the best of your ability.
And don’t forget, you can also direct them to another part of your website that might be able to help them and get yourself more traffic to other parts of your site.
But don’t let that be your only objective. Like I said, you should have a genuine interest in helping people understand and put the things you write about and give advice on into action.
Finding a Traffic-Driving Method That Works for You
There are tons of ways to drive traffic to your blog and you don’t have to use every single one of them. Just stick to a few and keep going. If something’s not working for you, there’s no harm in switching things up and trying another method.
Not every method works for everyone. Find something that does work for you and go hard with it. Do it to the very best of your ability.
If it’s Reddit or Quora, answer questions thoughtfully and with ample detail.
If it’s giving away free, downloadable templates, put your all into the design and content.
The more you put in, the more you’ll get out of it. But I want to emphasize again, that your aim shouldn’t be to get something out of it. It should be to help people. The rest will come on its own. Trust and believe in the process and you’ll find success.
