The holidays are quickly approaching and as a business owner, you know that now is the busiest time of year.
We’re all looking for ways to boost sales so we can get splurge on our children and families for the holidays – and of course, ourselves. Let’s not forget ourselves.
Or maybe you just want to make more money to improve the business.
Regardless of your reasons, the fact remains that now is the perfect opportunity to find ways to increase sales and exceed sales goals for the quarter (and maybe even the year).
What am I babbling about?
A countdown timer pop up. That’s what.
If you’re looking to increase your income this holiday season, in small but effective ways, you just might’ve found what you need to help you get there.
If you don’t already have one on your website, you might want to consider getting one (especially for the holidays).
So What Exactly is a Countdown Timer Popup?
A countdown timer pop up is something you install on your website that can help convert more of your visitors to paying customers.
Basically, it’s a timer that counts down the time until a sale is over or a product is almost out of stock.
It looks like this.
And it helps encourage your website visitors to make a purchase quickly. It provides just the right amount of urgency to help boost sales this quarter – without being overly pushy and annoying.
Why You Should Use One This Holiday Season
As you can see, a countdown timer popup can be an effective way to boost sales throughout the holiday season (when done right).
Like this one.
It tells visitors that they’ll get free shipping (which is always plus – even when the holidays aren’t looming).
That’s an incentive to get people to purchase now rather than later because, obviously, they’ll have to dig down deeper into their already strained pockets and pay for shipping (which can be expensive as you already know if do any shopping online).
So think about how you’ll design your countdown timer popup before you create it.
Make sure it appeals to your target audience.
How Do I Create My Own Countdown Popup Timer?
Creating your own countdown popup timer isn’t hard at all.
Just follow the steps below to create one with OptinMonster and you’ll be in a better position for more sales this quarter.
Without further adieu…here’s what to do.
1. Create a Floating Bar Optin
The first thing you’ll need to do is create a floating bar opt-in. You can do that by going to your OptinMonster dashboard and creating a new opt-in. Click the green Create Campaign button.
Once you’ve done that, select the Floating Bar when asked for the campaign type.
Then, select the Countdown template by hovering over it and clicking on the Use Template button.
You’ll be prompted to ask for a name for your sales timer (i.e., “Christmas Sale”) so choose a name that best represents what it’s going to be used for. Select your website from the dropdown menu and click Start Building to enter the campaign builder. Remember to save as often as possible when creating your campaign.
2. Update the Display Settings
Click Display Settings and go to Load Floating Bar at Top of Page and flip it to the On position.
3. Set the End Date/Time
Click on the countdown clock in the live preview to bring up the editing tools on the lefthand side. Be sure that the Type is set to Static so that all of your visitors see the exact same countdown when they visit your website.
Enter the date and time settings for when your sale is scheduled to start and end. Make sure the timer knows how to display the information.
The great thing about this is that the live preview shows the changes as you make them.
4. Customize the Copy & Design
Now it’s time to customize the copy and design of your countdown timer popup. You can change the button text, the offer text, and the background color of your countdown timer popup.
Use the gear icon to go to Settings and change your countdown timer design.
To change the offer text, click on the offer text in the live preview to open up the editing tools.
Change the text to whatever type of sale you have going on. For instance, if you have a Black Friday Sale coming up, you would write something like: “Black Friday Sale: Get 25% Off All Orders!”
To design your optin button, click on the button in the live preview to open up the editing tools for it.
Then, click the Button tab to edit the styling button.
Once you’ve done all that, it’s time to set up a success view so that you can provide your customers with a coupon code once they’ve signed up.
Click the Success tab and you can edit and finalize everything.
5. Connect Your Email Service Provider
Now it’s time to connect your email service provider.
Head to the Integrations tab and click Add New Integration. Select your email service provider from the Email Provider drop down list.
For the purposes of this article, we’ll just use my email service provider, Constant Contact.
So choose Constant Contact and a new window will open up so you can log in using your Constant Contact login credentials.
After you’re logged in, Constant Contact will ask you to allow OptinMonster access. Click Allow to move forward.
Once the new window opens, create your own name for your Constant Contact account and click the Connect with Constant Contact button.
Select your email list that you want your users to subscribe to. If you’re new to email marketing, you might only have one list, but it should appear there. Select it and save your campaign.
6. Set the Display Rules
If you like the way your countdown timer popup looks at this point, you can go ahead and set the display rules.
Head to the Display Rules tab. Once there, set your floating bar to be displayed on or before the date you selected.
Since we picked Black Friday 2020, you’d use the date 11/26/2020.
Now that you’ve done that, you can move on to setting up who should see this campaign. That means you have to set the conditions for which page you want the timer to appear.
Is it your store page? If so, you can do that by setting the second condition to content URL path exactly matches store.
Hit Save and go on to the final step.
7. Publish Your Countdown Timer Popup
Finally, it’s time to publish your countdown timer popup. Go to the Publish tab and flip the status to Live.
Once again, hit Save and you’re good to go!
