Laid off? Lost your job? Unemployment ran out?
If you’re in either of those boats, you’re not alone.
Millions are right alongside you in their own sinking boats.
But there’s a life jacket called Side Hustling you can use to get you to shore. And I’ll walk you through just how to secure it so you don’t drown while trying to save yourself.
Making more money seems to be at the top of most of our lists these days and with unemployment soaring to historic highs, it’s no wonder most of us are looking for ways to close the gap.
If this sounds like you, now’s the time to start thinking about how you’ll make it through the pandemic (and the holiday season) at least somewhat unscathed.
Ways to Make Extra Money This Season
Now that we’re only three and a half months away from the holidays, it’s time to start kicking your earning into overdrive.
I know I am.
I’m finding any and every way to promote my products and services so that my family can have the holidays they deserve, regardless of what’s going on in the world right now.
And I believe you can too. That’s why I’ve compiled this list of 10 ways you can bring in some extra money this holiday season. Because I think we all deserve a little something special after wasting away indoors all spring and summer long.
If you believe you deserve more too, take a look at my top 10 ways to make extra money this fall.
1. Teach a Webinar or Host a Master Class
If you have a specialized skill or you know how to do something that a lot of people want to do, you could teach a webinar or host a master class and make some extra money. Whether you’re putting your marketing skills to use or teaching people how to grow their own food, you can find something to teach people that they’ll find useful. Once you know what you want to teach, start looking into what platform you want to us because there are several to choose from, including:
There are dozens of others out there. Start doing your research to figure out which one would be best for you and then start organizing your ideas and planning the sub-topics you’ll teach.
2. Rent Out Your Garage Like a Storage Unit
Storage units can be pretty expensive and not many people are willing to fork up the cash to get one even if they really need one. Instead of storing your old junk in there for free, why not let someone else store their junk there and get paid for it? Companies like Neighbor.com allow people just like you to rent out their garages (and their parking spaces) to people in their own neighborhoods. It’s a quick and easy way to start earning some additional income. And the best part is that you won’t have to worry about handling payments — the app does all of that for you.
3. Rent Out Your RV
If you’ve got an RV that you don’t plan on using anytime soon, consider renting it out so you can make some extra cash. Think about joining RVShare if you want a quick and easy way to make some extra cash. Don’t let that RV sitting out in your yard go to waste.
Someone might want to use it for their next adventurous road trip across the country — and pay you handsomely for it. You can register your RV for free and determine how much you’ll charge. The app even allows you to charge for upgrades like unlimited mileage. So if you’re ready to earn a little passive income, sign up for RVShare today so you can start earning as soon as possible.
4. Become an Affiliate Marketer
Selling other people’s products is essentially what affiliate marketers do and it really isn’t all that hard if you put some effort into it. However, it will take some time to learn the way of things. But once you do, there are tons of ways to promote affiliate products and get paid for doing it. You can use a blog, your social media pages, and run ads. Plenty of top bloggers use affiliate marketing as their main source of income. So if you’ve got a knack for selling, you might be able to make extra money this season as an affiliate marketer, promoting other people’s products and services for a percentage of each sale.
5. Get Paid to Get Interviewed by Brands
Rather than take a bunch of surveys that net you barely enough to cover lunch for tomorrow, sign up to get interviewed by brands and get paid for it. You can make up to $20 an hour and sometimes even more. Companies need people like you to gather insights and data that help them make better decisions when it comes to their products and services. And sometimes surveys just don’t do it for them. Sites like Respondent.io can help connect you with companies looking for people to interview. You can rack up money pretty quickly with sites like these.
6. Learn to Proofread
Learning how to proofread is an in-demand skill and with more and more content being pumped out each day and published online, there’s ample opportunity for you to start making money as a proofreader. It helps if you have a niche that you specialize in so you can show potential clients your expertise. For example, proofreading court transcripts is a specialized field of proofreading that’s more in demand than you might think. But if you’ve never done it before, you’ll have to take some pointers from people who’ve been there and done that, like Caitlin Pyle, for example. She has a proofreading course that teaches you how to hone your proofreading skills and get into proofreading court transcripts for a living. Find your niche and start brushing up on your proofreading skills.
7. Pick Up Freelance Writing Work
I’ll always be a strong advocate of picking up extra freelance writing work, mainly because it’s what I do for a living and I see so many people earning extra money using the power of words. You can pick up freelance writing jobs in a number of ways. There are dozens of reputable sites, but Clear Voice has been my favorite freelance site to pick up extra work and I’ve made tens of thousands of dollars writing for them just part time. But you can also find freelance writing jobs on sites like:
- ProBlogger Job Board
- College Recruiter
- People Per Hour
- All Freelance Writing
- Working Nomads
- Freedom with Writing
- Media Bistro
- Skip the Drive
- We Work Remotely
Picking up extra freelance writing work can be a great source of additional income. Use the sites mentioned above to get started. Also, work on creating a portfolio to show potential clients that you know what you’re doing.
8. Become an Amazon Flex Delivery Partner
Amazon is in need of drivers right now. Since a majority of Americans are stuck at home during this pandemic, we’re all ordering junk we don’t need online and getting it delivered by…you guessed it…Amazon. And the company just can’t seem to keep up with demand now that the coronavirus has deliveries at an all-time high. If you think you can help and you want to earn some extra money, consider applying to become a delivery service partner (what they call their drivers). You can make a decent wage ($17 to $24 an hour) doing it so it might be worth looking into.
9. Start an Instagram Shop
Ever wanted to make money using social media? Starting an Instagram shop could be the right side gig for you. First, you’ll need to choose a niche and think about what kinds of products you want to sell. With over 500 million users on Instagram, there’s plenty of opportunities to earn extra money with your new Instagram shop. But before you can do that, you’ll need to make sure you meet the qualifications, such as making sure your business is located in a supported market, that your business complies with commerce policies, and that you have a business account that’s connected to a Facebook account. Once you’ve done those things, you’ll need to connect to a catalog, sign up for Shopping in the Instagram app, and then you can start creating shopping posts and stories.
10. Create Stunning Drone Videos for Real Estate Companies
Bet you didn’t think when you bought your new drone online that it’d be able to make you some decent money. If you have a high-quality drone, you could take drone videos of properties for real estate companies in your spare time. Now that virtual tours are more in-demand than ever, there’s increased competition among real estate companies to stand out. If you’ve got the videography and editing skills it requires to create a dramatic, stunning view of properties on the market, you could make hundreds of dollars per video. If you don’t, it’s a skill that can be learned. Building a portfolio can help you snag jobs much more easily. Start practicing and learning all you can about real estate drone photography.
Secure the Bag
Securing a bag or two this fall shouldn’t be difficult. These suggestions can help you figure out exactly what it is you can and want to do to bring in additional income this holiday season. Despite all that’s going on in the world, you can find ways to keep your head above water and give your family the holiday season you all deserve.
